(ABC 6 News) - Millions of people will take to the air or road this holiday. In fact AAA expects a record number of 100 million people to travel this holiday weekend.
“What we can do is minimize a hazard, I guess would be the best way of saying it,” said Robert Langanki, a snow plow supervisor for Minnesota Department of Transportation’s District 6.
Starting Friday morning over 100 snow plows were clearing and treating roads in SE Minnesota.
Langanki can’t stress enough that drivers need to take their time this week; especially because of the increase in travel and the winter weather conditions, “Slow your vehicle down, follow at a safe distance from other vehicles around you and please never crowd the plow."
First time snow plow driver, Jordan Walters, says he appreciates the patience as he’s getting used to the roads every drive out, “I mean it’s a learning curve, but I think I’m doing alright and I’m getting better every day.”
If you don’t want to listen to MnDOT you could listen to Art Wagner, who has decades of winter driving experience. Wagner says, “I’m accustomed to it. I spent the first 30 years in Pennsylvania and the last 67 [years] I guess here... Slow down number one, and watch out for the other person. I do defensive driving in the winter."
Be sure to stick with ABC 6 News online, on-air, and on all of our social media platforms this holiday weekend to plan your trips accordingly.
