(ABC 6 News) - It's Weather Lab Wednesday and today we are announcing our latest certified Weather Lab Assistant.
This week our winners are Cortney and Payton Christianson. They are siblings from Austin and completed the mini vortex cannon and cloud in a jar experiment. Both love science and say they can not wait to complete more experiments. Congratulations to both Cortney and Payton.
We also want to remind you that there's still time to become an ABC 6 Weather Lab Assistant... like Cortney and Payton. All you have to do is go to kaaltv.com and pick an experiment. Then submit a photo and you could be chosen as our next winner. Our latest winner will be announced in one week.
Every summer the Kasson Public Library has a summer reading program. This year's theme is reading takes you everywhere... including science and the weather. Which is a perfect combination for the ABC 6 Weather Lab. We visited today and the crowd was so large, we had to change venues.
"I just wanted to learn about weather and molecules…" said Audra Lohrbach.
Nats: (the crowd at school)
"While Kasson has a brand new library that is so much larger than the old one, we knew that the Weather Lab would draw a large crowd," said Kasson Library Associate Melanie Bersano.
"So we decided to hold it at the KM Middle School gym. Today we had 636 children and parents come," Melanie added.
Nats: "Turn around don't drown!"
"I liked how they made teabags fly," said Audra.
"It's just very cool," Audra explained.
Nats: (crowd noise)
"We got to do experiments… on clouds and rain and… how oil is less dense than water." Said Adelin Wohlenhaus.
Nats: (air cannon) "Whoa!"
"My favorite was when they put the fog in the air cannon because it was cool how it circled out…" continued Adelin.
"It's so important, especially this time of year that children understand along with their parents, what to do in severe weather situations," said Bersano.
"This was a really awesome day," said Audra."
