(ABC 6 News) --The Iowa Department of Natural Resources and Federal Emergency Management Agency officials say homeowners might want to check the updated Iowa floodplains map.
Officials said residents might found out that the updates may require them to buy flood insurance.
An open house will be held on Monday, June 25 at 5:30 p.m. to give residents an opportunity to see the maps and how their risk of flooding may have changed.
As a result of these map changes, officials said some buildings in Mason City may now be included in a high-risk flood zone or special flood hazard area for the first time.
The meeting will be held at the Public Library and it is open to the public.
