(ABC 6 News) – Tuesday afternoon, the Fillmore County Board of Commissioners declared a state of emergency because of damage from the flooding over the weekend.
Heavy amounts of rain made fields look like small ponds, and left areas of the road in shambles.
Fillmore County Sheriff Tom Kaase said all townships and cities were hit pretty hard. Wykoff and Mabel's wastewater treatment facilities were also impacted. Kaase also said the county needs to restore somewhere between $210,000 to $225,000 worth of damage.
"Through the assessments, that'll get verified, and potentially we could find more damage."
Kaase said the state or federal officials will base the aid on damage seen in photos and videos compiled from Saturday and Sunday's aftermath.
Homeland Security and Emergency Management (HSEM) will begin their assessment of the damage in the near future.
