June 04, 2018 11:35 AM

(ABC 6 News) - We're wrapping up our month of ABC 6 Weather Labs with our final stop of the school year. Chris, Jim, and Cindy visited Southgate Elementary in Austin where the entire school turned out.

Nats: "One more time you can do better than that. Let's hear it!"

"The kids were informed about some science experiments," explained 4th-grade teacher Kurt Sorgatz.

Nats: "Me!"

"And they had a chance to see how different weather-related activities work."

Nats: "So there you go."

"It gives them a real-life experience, so they can actually see things that are actually happening," Sorgatz continued.

Nats: "Just give it a subtle little blow."

"Well, we learned about weather and air motion," said Elton, a student at Southgate Elementary.

Nats: (cheering)

"Air pressure…" continued Elton.

Nats: "And I thought this was going to be super-duper exciting…"

 "Molecules, they're everywhere," finished Elton.

Nats: "Whoa!" (Air cannon and cheering)

"Yeah, I'd like to give my kids more of a chance to be informed about the different types of weather events that happen in our area," hoped Sorgatz.

Nats: "Go!" (Air cannons) "Mr. Tim! Mr. Tim!" (Cheering) "Whoa!"

And just because the school year is ending, it doesn't mean the fun has to stop. You can catch the ABC 6 Weather Lab this summer at many events including at the Kasson Library, Rochesterfest, and several county fairs.

We are also announcing our latest Certified Weather Lab Assistant. This week our winners are Jaylee and Alexa Underhill. The sisters are in pre-school and first grade and Jaylee was in the audience with the Weather Lab visited Gibbs Elementary. The two completed the rainbow in a jar experiment while Jaylee also tried her hand at the cloud in a jar experiment.

We also want to remind you that there's still time to become an ABC 6 Weather Lab Assistant. Like Jaylee all you have to do is go to our website at kaaltv.com and pick an experiment. Then submit a photo and you could be chosen as our next winner. Our next winner will be announced in one week.
