When Vikings Crush Opponents, Albert Lea Liquor Store Crushes Cans

(ABC 6 News) -- It's crunch time for the Minnesota Vikings, which means it's "crush time" for an Albert Lea liquor store.

Throughout the 2017 NFL season, Cheers Liquor has been celebrating the Vikings' victories in a unique way-- by crushing empty beer cans with the opposing team's logo.

The store's manager and co-owner Jenny Heinrich said the idea came to her after some summer fun crushing cans after a sporting event.

"When they came out with the Bud Light 36-can NFL pack and it had all the different teams on it, I'm like 'Wouldn't it be if every time the Vikings won we would just crush the other team's can' and then it kind of went from there," she said.

Since the season first started, the can crushing has gotten more involved, incorporating touchdown dances and other team celebrations. Heinrich said she found a pair of rubber boots at the store, which she's since painted purple and uses each time she crushes a can. She's also been posting videos of the celebrations to the store's Facebook page, raking in hundreds of views and promoting the store simultaneously.

Heinrich said she's looking forward to Sunday's Vikings-Saints match-up Sunday so she can cheer the Vikings on to victory and crush a Saints can for the second time this season.
