(ABC 6 News) – For a third-straight season, the Kasson-Mantorville KoMets are playing for a Class AA state volleyball championship—and the 2018 title run is off to a promising start.

The KoMets, the no.1 seed in the Class AA state volleyball tournament, swept unseeded St. Cloud Cathedral in Thursday’s quarterfinals at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, 3-0 (25-11, 25-18, 25-16).

Kasson-Mantorville practically dominated the Crusaders, racking up more kills (26 for St. Cloud Cathedral, 40 for Kasson-Mantorville), totaling a higher attacking percentage (.030 to .298), and out-blocking the Crusaders (2 to 16)—the KoMets said that’s just scratching the surface of what they’re capable of.

"We haven't reached our highest potential yet,” KoMets junior middle hitter Emilee Terry said. “We're going to try to reach our highest potential by the end of the season."

In the match, the KoMets never trailed by more than three points in any set.

"We've got a lot of different looks we can put out on the floor,” Kasson-Mantorville head coach Adam VanOort said. “We have a lot of players who can contribute. We've been steady, and I think that comes from working our tails off in practice and knowing we've prepared the best we can."

With the win, the KoMets advance to the Class AA semifinals against no.4 seed North Branch. Kasson-Mantorville is the favorite to win, but the KoMets say they don’t care about what any matches at the state level show on paper.

"Being the no.1 seed, we know every game is going to be a battle,” KoMets senior outside hitter Peyton Suess said. “We can't take anything for granted. We're just taking it one game, one point at a time."

The Class AA semifinals between Kasson-Mantorville and North Branch are scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul on Friday.
