(ABC 6 NEWS) - Kasson-Mantorville senior Isaac Threinen has made a name for himself in cross country, and is looking to finish off his high school career in a big way at state.
The Komets star won the Hiawatha Valley League title for the third straight year on Tuesday. He has been a huge part of the cross country program at Kasson-Mantorville, which is something Head Coach Jared Pittman saw as a possibility years ago.
"When he was an eighth grader, we went out and did a 10-mile run together and it was kind of at that run I was like, 'this kid might be pretty good,'" Pittman said.
He has grown a lot since then, with a trio of conference titles and a trip to state under his belt. But one trip to compete against Minnesota's best isn't enough for Threinen.
"Last year at state I was just really happy making it. That was just my one goal. I just savored the moment then, but I think this year when I qualify hopefully, I want to make my mark," Threinen said.
