(ABC 6 News) - After Stewartville survived a five-set scare from Concordia Academy Friday night, they took down defending AA state champion North Branch in five sets to take home the state title.

The match didn't get off to an ideal start, with the Vikings winning the first set behind some huge kills from their star senior Cianna Selbitschka.

But the Tigers showed their resiliency again on Saturday, bouncing back and taking the second and third sets behind great play from junior Erin Lamb and senior Katylyn Prondzinski.

But if this weekend was anything, it was dramatic. The Vikings would force the game to a fifth set, and the race to 15 was on.

With tips from Lamb and senior Lily Welch, the Tigers got out to an early lead in the fifth set and staved off a Vikings run before Lamb delivered the finishing blow-- the final kill of the season. The Tigers winning their first state title since 2014.
