(ABC 6 News) -- On Saturday the Stewartville High School Bowling team won 5th place at the state tournament.
It has been 3 years since the Stewartville High School Bowling team has won a state tournament. ABC 6 News reporter Lynette Miller talked to the team before this weekend and they said that bowling is a sport that is sometimes overlooked.
But they also say this hasn't stopped them from knocking over their competition, "It's been amazing we feel all connected, we don't get down. The pump ups and the positivity is just insane"
The team says it hasn't always been a walk in the park for them, "Last year we started out pretty bad, we started out 0 and 2 but we kind of worked our way into a better team."
Before winning tournaments, they experienced a lack of support from their peers, "Now they are like really encouraging, like hey good luck at state. I hear it constantly going to class. We've had a lot more cheering this year and that really helps mentally because bowling is a huge mental sport."
"No way we could've gotten this far without our teammates, people step up. When someone is going down we stay positive but we put in someone else and they step up."
