(ABC 6 News)- Luckily, the Spring Grove Lions football team did not have to worry about snowy conditions like they dealt with during the state quarterfinals, but either way that wouldn't have phased them. Spring Grove topped Cromwell-Wright 48-12 in the Class 9-Man state semifinals at U.S. Bank Stadium on Thursday.
The Lions were hot right out of the gate, senior quarterback Alex Folz ran the ball into the endzone from two yards out to give Spring Grove the 20-0 lead in the first quarter. Folz would score another rushing touchdown, ending the first quarter on a high-note, ahead 28-0.
The Lions lit up the field in the first half, Folz connected with Takoda Boyds for a 44-yard touchdown reception, in the second quarter to put the Lions up 42-6 at the half.
Cromwell-Wright would try to fight back, only scoring one touchdown in the second half, trailing 48-12 at the start of the fourth quarter.
Folz was named Most Valuable Player (MVP) in today's win over Cromwell-Wright. The Spring Grove Lions have now won 27 consecutive games on the gridiron. The defending state champions look to take home their second straight state title on Friday, November 23 at U.S. Bank Stadium. Kickoff is set for 10 a.m. against Mountain Lake Area.
