(ABC 6 News) - The Spring Grove Lions have won two straight 9-man football state titles, and have their eyes set on a third.
The Lions have been unbeatable the last two years-- literally. Their last loss came on November 4, 2016. However, their constant winning hasn't made them complacent. They have just one thing on their minds as practice starts.
"It's just three-peat. After every practice we break it off with three-peat," senior Kyle Hagen said.
The Lions lost 7 starters to graduation, but have retooled and are itching to show what they can do in their season opener on August 29.
There are outside expectations for Spring Grove to dominate once again this year, but the team also has high expectations for themselves because they know what they're capable of.
"Their expectations of themselves is to do the same thing. Work hard, take it game by game and hopefully put ourselves in a position to have a chance to make it back to the state tournament and make a run," Head Coach Zach Hauser said.
As kings of 9-man football in Minnesota, Spring Grove will have a target on their back this season, with a team looking to dethrone them every week.
