(ABC 6 News) - The Southland football team lost plenty of players to graduation, but they have a different challenge ahead of them than most teams- they move to 9-man football this season.
Last season the Rebels took a step forward going 5-5 overall, even winning their first section game over Fillmore Central. Southland graduated 13 seniors and have a lot of gaps to fill. But the more pressing issue is getting up-to-date on the rules and strategies of 9-man football.
The team is embracing the change and is hoping to take their success last year into the beginning of this season. Despite the change in division, the team isn't going to be making any excuses when they take the field.
"This is still football. Football is football no matter where you play," senior Reece Popenhagen said.
