(ABC 6 News) - An RCTC athletics facility is getting a face-lift. The turf at Rochester Regional Stadium is being replaced. The school says the project has been about 10 years in the making.
The project is expected to last a month and will cost around four hundred thousand dollars. The money comes from the school itself as well as the fees different teams pay to use the facility.
The field is a vital resource for Rochester athletics, hosting everything from high school lacrosse to softball games and tournaments in the winter. RCTC's Executive Director of Communications Nate Stoltman says that constant use of the turf had left the field in dire need of an upgrade.
"This turf is used virtually every day by not only RCTC teams but community teams, high school teams, semi-pro teams. So because of that use, its life span has unfortunately been shortened a little bit."
The work will continue this week with the turf likely being ripped out late this weekend. The project is expected to last until the end of July, and the facility should be up and running for the start of fall sports in August.
