(ABC 6 News)- Pine Island Panthers senior running back and linebacker Josh Navratil will be continuing his football career at the University of North Dakota.
“They recruited me really hard and a lot of interest came to me so I know I’m going to be playing a lot more there,” Navratil said. “They promised me they can make me the best football player I can be. I've been on the phone with them since January and they've called me almost once a week. I built a relationship with my position coach and the defensive coordinator too.”
Navratil announced the commitment via Twitter saying ‘ever since I was a little kid my goal has been to be a Division I athlete’.
“My parents, teammates, and coaches they always pushed me to go chase my dream and do everything I can to get there,” Navratil said.
Navratil had offers from other D-I universities including Minnesota State University-Mankato, Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall, and the University of Minnesota-Duluth, but North Dakota felt like home.
“It’s a big university but it’s in a smaller town, so I like that coming from a small town,” Navratil said.
Per Minnesota Football Hub, Navratil rushed for 1.045 yards in the 2017-18 season for the Panthers, scoring nine rushing touchdowns, in addition to 397 receiving yards and 5 receiving touchdowns.
Navratil will return to football camp with the Pine Island Panthers in two weeks. In the meantime, Navratil will continue his daily workouts with his friends.
