(ABC 6 News) - The Dover-Eyota Eagles are getting ready to soar into the 2019 season with their new head coach Brett Vesel.

In February, Dover-Eyota announced that Vesel would be taking over the head coaching position and even though he is new to the Eagles, this isn't his first rodeo.

"It's my thirty second year of coaching football," Vesel said. "So, we're trying to start a new program right now and things are going really good."

Prior to being an Eagle, he was the head coach of the Austin Packers from 2012-2018. Although Vesel has been coaching for more than three decades, it can be still be a little tough being the new kid.

"It's always new," Vesel expressed. "This is my first time taking over a program. So, it's always tough to start over, but I'm really excited."

For Vesel, it’s a new team and program. For returning players, it’s a brand new coach. For others, this is the first time in their entire high school playing career they will have a new coach.

As different as it can be, some of the seniors are already impressed with what Vesel has brought to their team and the athletic community.

"I like everything he is doing so far," fourth-year starting quarterback Williams said. "In the summer, he's getting kids in the weight room through every sport, which is nice. Ever drill, everything he does, he brings the most energy possible, so that's what I like the most about him."

Williams isn't the only player who has noticed Vesel's energy. Senior Joe Callahan also said he really likes his enthusiasm.

"He seems to be really invested in the players out here and building relationships with the young guys really early and I really like that," Callahan added.

The Eagles kick off their 2019 campaign in less than two weeks. On August 29th there will be a rematch of the 2018 section championship game when they host the reigning Class AAA state champs, the Rochester Lourdes Eagles. Kick-off is in Eyota at 7 p.m.
