(ABC 6 News) - As leagues around the world postpone or cancel their seasons in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, one local team is stuck in limbo and waiting to find out what's next.

The Austin Bruins are a part of the NAHL and as of Thursday, their season was put on pause.

"Trying to see how this is going to progress, how things are going to move forward, and if we can pick things up right where we left off or do we have to amend the schedule and start right with playoffs? Who knows," Director of Brodcasting TJ Chillot said. "That will be up to the Board of Governors and up to the Commissioner, but right now for the NAHL, the word "pause" is the word."

With a level of uncertainity Bruins Head Coach Steve Howard's message to the team has been, "stay on the ice, keep working out, eating right, keep being ready to go because at a moments notice we could be back," Chillot added.

On March 12, the Bruins released a statement on the pause, which included comments from the NAHL Commissioner Mark Frankenfeld. In the article, Frankenfeld stated, "this is an unprecedented time and situation, so first and foremost we want to be sure we are doing what is best for our players, teams, fans, and officials..."

Things were quiet over the weekend for the NAHL, but according to Howard, "there's a conference call on Monday. We're going to have the league and the board of directors talk and they're going to decide on what we're going to do going forward. I think we wanted to see what some of the upper leagues are doing as well, the USHL, and the NHL."

Before the pause happened, the Bruins had three more weeks left of their regular season. As for the team, they are trying to stay positive in this tough time.

"I got a little worried like what if it's done? But I just have to think positive. I mean we can't change anything," Bruins veteran defenseman Jed Pietila said.
