(ABC 6 News) - Curling season is right around the corner and local clubs are gearing up.
In Austin, the Mower County Curling Club hosted an Open House Event on Sunday to kick off their new club and season. However, this isn't the only event the club will host this season.
"We have a Learn to Curl in November and December where people get more instruction," Nathan Annis, the club's president said. "This [event] is to help people understand the sport, where Learn to Curl is going to be more focused on helping people build their skills."
Annis also said the club hopes they can fill up their fall session, which begins on Sunday, Nov. 10, and hope that also sparks interest for their spring league.
MCCC is a few months old, as curling in Mower County used to be done through Austin Park and Recreation. It may have been the club's first event, but it was packed at the Packer Arena with eager participants of various ages.
"[My wife and I] both said this sounded really cool," first-time curler Arik Andersen said. "We heard other people doing it and there was an opportunity to try it out. It stretches muscles that I didn't expect to be stretched."
Back here in Med City, the Curling Club of Rochester kicked off their 2019 fall league on Sunday night at the Rec Center.
