(ABC 6 News) - At a press conference Friday afternoon John Marshall's standout basketball star Matthew Hurt committed to play basketball for the Duke Blue Devils.

A big decision that he did not take lightly. There were many factors that went into him choosing Duke he said, but the main ones were the brotherhood the team shares and those he will get to play with.

"I fell in love with Duke since I visited there and it was great having Tre Jones come back," Hurt said following his announcement. "I know him pretty well. I think that was a big piece of it."

Hurt also said that another big part of his decision was the fact he would be coached by Coach K, which means a lot.

"I'm really excited," Hurt exclaimed about his decision. "I've been waiting for this day for a while. It was tough saying no to the other three schools but at the end of the day I made the decision for myself and I think I made the best one."

Hurt played six varsity seasons for the JM Rockets with more than 3,000 career points, with over 1,000 from his senior year alone.

He was recruited by Duke, Kansas, University of North Carolina and Kentucky, among other schools.
