(ABC 6 News) - The Southeast Minnesota Flyers 18U softball team has made the most of their summer softball season, winning the Class A National Championship.

The players were heartbroken after the high school season was canceled. But the travel season has helped ease the pain.

"It definitely has helped. It definitely has helped. It's just kind of added a little bit of closure that we did not get in the spring," St. Charles graduate Emilee Buringa said.

Getting to spend time with their teammates has been a blessing. The pile of wins they have been collecting are an added bonus. In Sioux Falls, South Dakota the team went up against opponents from all over the United States, putting themselves to the test over and over again.

"We were a little nervous but I think that helped just put an edge on us because we were like 'OK, they're good, but we got to step up our game and we have to be better,'" Chatfield graduate Lexi Chase said.

After winning a few nailbiters, the Flyers added a National title to their collection that already includes three straight state titles.

After a difficult spring sitting at home when they should've been playing, the team is capitalizing on their time on the field and with each other.
