Lourdes Out to Silence the Doubters

(ABC 6 News) - With plenty of doubt surrounding this season after losing 18 players from their state title roster a year ago, the Eagles are eager to prove everyone wrong.

Lourdes was a perfect 14-0 last year, steamrolling their way to a state title, outscoring their opponents 73-27 in their three state games.

But this season is filled with questions for the Eagles. How do they replace 18 solid athletes?

"We've been in these situations before and kids have responded. It's a big challenge but that's what's exciting about coaching high school football," Head Coach Mike Kesler said.

The Eagles have heard the doubts, but they know they will be just fine.

"A lot of people think that we’re not going to be as good this year but we got to show everyone that we’re still Lourdes. We’re going to bring our best and we’re going to be hard to beat," senior Noah Vettel said.

It's a next-man-up mindset for the Eagles. Something that has worked for them in the past.

The Lourdes Eagles open their season against the Dover-Eyota Eagles on August 29.
