(ABC 6 News) - A historic night for the Lourdes girls basketball team as they become the first girls program in Minnesota state history to reach 1,000 wins.
The Eagles entered the week only needing one more win, but a tough road loss to Hiawatha Valley League rival Stewartville on Tuesday prolonged the achievement. However, the wait ended Thursday night in Rochester as they beat the Byron Bears 58-22.
Former Eagles Head Coach Myron Glass, who helped the program reach over 700 wins was in attendance on Thursday saying it was, "a great, great thrill to have been there for the first win in the early 70's," Glass commented. "Now, with Aaron taking them to win now and get to 1,000, that's just great."
Current Head Coach Aaron Berg adding that it's special taking a successful program and finally getting it to this point.
"The girls did all the heavy lifting and to have this night is just very special for the program."
The wait was well worth it as the team accomplished this feat on their home court in front of family, friends, and alumni.
"It's really such an honor to have such legends in the stands while we're playing," senior Alyssa Ustby said. "We're just very proud to be a part of this program."
