(ABC 6 News)- The four-time state football champions, Rochester Lourdes Eagles earned their fifth Class AAA state title on Saturday with a 24-7 win over Fairmont at U.S. Bank Stadium.
Lourdes’ senior running back, Jake Groteboer put his team on the board first with a 4-yard touchdown run late in the first quarter, allowing the Eagles to lead 7-0 at halftime.
Fairmont fired back at the start of the second half with a 56-yard touchdown reception by their senior tight end, Thomas Johnson, tying the game at seven. The Eagles didn’t look back; Ben Limburg had the go-ahead field goal with 4:33 left in the third quarter, to take a 10-7 lead. Senior running back Zach Jungels was fierce in the fourth quarter, scoring a 50-yard rushing touchdown at the eleven-minute mark and then a 22-yard rushing touchdown with 1:45 to go in regulation. Jungels totaled 233 rushing yards with two touchdowns.
Lourdes earned their first Class AAA state title since 2016, and their third Class AAA state title in the last five years.
