(ABC 6 News) – The No. 4-state-ranked Hayfield Vikings girls’ basketball team struggled in the first half against a Lanesboro team missing its star: center Kaci Ruen. The Vikings led by just two points at halftime Saturday in the Section 1A semifinals at Mayo Civic Auditorium.
In the second half, they turned it around, scoring 40 points and cruising to a 63-35 win. It was Hayfield’s 12th straight win and lifted it to 28-3 and into Thursday’s 6 p.m. section final. Natalie Beaver had 13 points, standout junior guard Kristen Watson had 17, and guard Chelsea Christopherson had 10.
Jessie Schreiber led Lanesboro scorers with 15 points.
