Local Baseball Teams Gear Up for State Tourney

(ABC 6 News) - Two local baseball teams are heading to the MSHSL State Baseball Tournament, one for the first time, the other for the first time in almost 30 years.

The Hayfield Vikings baseball team has never seen a state berth before and on Wednesday morning, the Hayfield community gathered to give a proper send-off. The Vikings earned the No. 3 seed in the Class A tournament and will face Sacred Heart in the quarterfinals on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. Game is in Jordan, MN, at Mini Met.

The Austin Packers baseball team is going to state for the first time in 29 years. The top-seed Packers took down the four-seed Albert Lea Tigers 7-3 in the Section1AAA title game to advance to state. Austin will faced second-seed Hill-Murray at Siebert Field on the University of Minnesota's campus on Thursday at 3 p.m.
