(ABC 6 News)-  The Austin High School girls gymnastics team has some gymnasts who are no strangers to the state tournament.  Senior captain Jennifer Boyle is one of them who has made her way into the record books.

“She’s an extremely hard worker, a smart athletic athlete,” Head Coach Bethany Hander said.  "She’s very self-motivated; Top motivator on this team this year."

Boyle is also a confidence booster.

“This year I’m just working on staying confident,” Boyle said.

That’s because of her inspiration, Olympian Simone Biles.

"(I try to emulate) her level of confidence," Boyle said.  “When you watch her, you can just tell she’s confident and calm, (and) I think that’s a big part in how she performs so well.  I think what gets a lot of girls is the mental part of the sports, so it can get scary at times but I just try my best to just push through it,” Boyle added.

Earlier this month, she hit a new school record on the bars, scoring a high of 9.825 against Mankato; and this past weekend at the Big Nine Conference meet, Boyle placed first in the bars and the all-around event.

“I just do my best every meet. I guess I don’t feel like I did anything different, it just happened to be one of my best performances,” Boyle said.

“She has a natural ability to excel in gymnastics and we’ve been seeing it since she was a tiny little gymnast,” Hander said.  “No, (it doesn’t surprise me she gets these scores) she comes in and she practices the same way she competes, so she should be scoring those scores.”

“I know I can do well as long as I do my best,” Boyle said.

Boyle has been to state the past three years and is hoping to make her fourth straight appearance.

“I just try to work my hardest when I’m in the gym and not getting too comfortable because a lot of girls stop when they’re comfortable because they think this is good enough, but I think you can always find places to improve,” Boyle said.
