(ABC 6 News) - Before the Rochester Honkers took on the Mankato MoonDogs on Sunday afternoon, the team had a special guest throw out the first pitch.
Meet 3-year-old Libby Bradley, who traveled with her family from Nashville, Tennessee, to have a surgery at Mayo Clinic on Wednesday.
“She was born with a facial infiltrating lipomatosis,” Libby’s mom, Jen, said. “It took us about three years to figure out what it was. After talking to MD Anderson, Johns Hopkins, we figured Mayo Clinic was the best place for us. We came here when she was one, with an amazing surgeon, Samir Mardini, who just performed an eleven hour surgery on her.”
Libby got out of surgery on Wednesday night and the Bradley’s were going to be in Med City for a few days. That's when the Honkers came to mind. Jen talked with some close friends, one of whom used to play with the Honkers, and they suggested taking Libby to a game to get some fresh air.
“I emailed the Honkers and the president sent an email back asking if she’d be open to throwing the first pitch and they would love to have us as guests," Jen said.
Libby checked off two things on Sunday, throwing out the first pitch and attending her first baseball game ever.
Jen said that there still isn’t a lot of data on what Libby has, but hopefully with this sample and study, it can help other families.
