(ABC 6 News) - The Hayfield boys basketball team won their semifinals game 79-53 Wednesday, and will play in the state title game for the first time in 20 years.
The fourth-seeded Vikings dominated Badger-Greenbush-Middle River from the first whistle, with senior Ethan Slaathaug pacing the team with 34 points. Hayfield will now play Hancock for the Class A state title Saturday at 1 pm.
"We knew we were going to be good going into the season. You can never expect to be playing for a state championship good but we knew we had a chance to get to the state tournament," Hayfield Head Coach Chris Pack said. "Definitely peaking at the right time and guys are playing their best basketball individually and as a team."
