Former Kasson-Mantorville Wrestler Being Treated for Gunshot Wound

(ABC 6 News) – According to the Iowa City Police Department, a former star wrestler from Kasson-Mantorville is being treated for a gunshot wound he sustained early Tuesday morning.

In a press release, police said around 4:37 a.m. officers were called to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for a report of a gunshot victim.

Police said 22-year-old Sam Stoll, a University of Iowa student, is being treated for a non-life -threatening gunshot wound to the knee.

According to the release, a preliminary investigation has revealed several people were at a home on Valley Avenue when someone discharged a firearm that accidentally hit Stoll.

In high school, Stoll helped lead Kasson-Mantorville to their first Class AA state team wrestling championship in 2013 before furthering his wrestling career at Iowa in college.

This past season, Stoll was the fifth-ranked heavyweight in college wrestling and the lone junior ranked in the top five in the national InterMat Wrestling rankings.

Police said the investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
