(ABC 6 News)- On Thursday Land O’ Lakes held their first annual Farm Bowl at 3M Arena at Mariucci.
The Farm Bowl brought together former and current NFL players, including two Minnesota Vikings stars, wide receiver Stefon Diggs and tight end Kyle Rudolph.
The event's focus was to raise awareness on farming and agriculture for the younger generation.
“Now farming is technologically advanced and this next generation is very savvy in that department and ya know there are 20,000 jobs and every year they get left out, Partner of Johnson Farms & Wells Darin Johnson said. “There is a ton of opportunity there and that’s why we’re reaching out to the next generation.”
A professional farmer and athlete were paired together and competed in four farming related obstacles, like changing a tire on a tractor to stacking hay. Each obstacle had to be completed in 90 seconds, and the fastest time would be awarded a “Lombardi-style” Farm Bowl Trophy.
“It was harder, my man Darin here he had the plan all along. I think we got stuck on the one thing that we thought would be easiest for us and that was getting the tire off,” Rudolph said. “We kind of underestimated with us two tall guys. You got to bend down and lift that thing before you try to pick it off and we were just trying to push it off.”
“I didn’t know you had to lift up the tire and move, I thought it was going to fall right off, maybe because I’m not Jerome Bettis (NFL Hall of Famer) or one of those big guys I didn’t have it all under control,” Diggs said.
However, despite the challenge, Diggs placed first in the competition.
