(ABC 6 News) - Alyssa Ustby and CJ Adamson combined for 48 points to help the Lourdes girls basketball team advance to the state semifinals with a 71-55 victory.
The Eagles were locked in early, jumping out to a big lead thanks to Ustby. Against a smaller Concordia Academy-Roseville team, her size was a visible problem. The Beacons had a hard time keeping her out of the paint, which led to easy buckets for Ustby and her teammates.
On the biggest stage, the Eagles calmed their nerves in the first half. Despite a push by the Beacons in the second half that saw the lead dwindle down to as little as seven, the Eagles kept a firm grip on the game. A few timely buckets and connecting from the free throw line led to a comfortable 16-point win for the Eagles. After the game Beacons' Head Coach Tiffany Stubbs saying depth is what makes Lourdes hard to slow down.
"If you could put all five girls on 21 [Ustby] you would, but 11 [Sydney Elliot] is out there, has a really pure shot. 24 [Adamson] knows how to attack. I mean they had some other girls step up and make really big buckets and that makes all the difference, because every team they play is going to focus on 21," Stubbs said.
