(ABC 6 News) - While the Dodge County boys hockey team had a fleet of fans at the Xcel Energy Center for their historic state tournament run, back home there was endless support pouring in from the community.

"It literally brings everybody together," Deryck Witt, Dodge County resident, said. "Every little restaurant, bar is showing the state hockey game and it's just cool to be part of the community knowing that their high school team is there and cheering them on."

Some of those local bars and restaurants include the Mantorville Saloon and the Zumbro Valley Golf Course, where groups of people safely gathered to cheer on the Wildcats during each of their state tournament games.

"We're just so proud of them for what they are doing," Scott Seim said. "Win lose or draw, it's a heck of an accomplishment for them. They should be proud."

The Wildcats made history every time they hit the ice and back home younger hockey players recognized what they were doing and accomplishing on the big ice. One local youth hockey player shared, "It's really cool because maybe I could do that too when I get older." And in the same breath pointed to his sister standing right next to him saying, "Maybe she could too."
