(ABC 6 News)- The Caledonia Warriors football team are no strangers to the state tournament. The 9x state football champions proved how talented they are with a 40-6 win over Paynesville in Thursday’s Class AA state semifinal game at U.S. Bank Stadium.
Caledonia scored first late in the first quarter, Noah King connected with senior running back Nick McCabe for an 8-yard touchdown. The Warriors wouldn’t strike again until early in the second quarter when King pitched it to senior running back Jack Beardmore for a 58-yard rushing touchdown to put Caledonia ahead by two touchdowns. Caledonia’s quarterback, King would add to the score after two rushing touchdowns, to give the Warriors a 27-0 lead at halftime.
Caledonia was not looking back in the second half, they limited Paynesville to just one touchdown and scored another 13 points.
This marks the second straight year Caledonia has beat Paynesville in the Class AA semifinals game. Last year the Warriors won 49-16 over Paynesville. This marks 53 consecutive wins for Caledonia, and their fourth straight trip to the state championship game. Caledonia will face Barnesville in the Class AA State Finals on Friday, November 23 at U.S. Bank Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. on KAAL 6.2.
