(ABC 6 News) – One year after their oldest brother became a state individual wrestling champion, younger brothers Maxwell and Mitchel Petersen are now part of the same group.
Maxwell, an 8th-grader at Byron, defeated Princeton’s Landon Parent in the 106-pound Class AA individual championship on Saturday by a 5-1 decision. In 2017, Maxwell’s older brother, Mathew, won the 106-pound title.
Mitchel, a sophomore for the Bears, had the most thrilling dual victory between he and Maxwell. Trailing 5-0 in the third period, Mitchel overcame that deficit, edging Totino-Grace’s Jake Svihel, 8-7, claiming his first individual state championship.
Also in Class AA, Kasson-Mantorville’s Bennett Berge (138 pounds) and Patrick Kennedy (182 pounds) claimed individual state championships with wins over Foley’s John Dierkes (1-0) and P-E-M’s Dustin Dittrich (9-2), respectively.
Berge, the younger brother of former KoMet star and current Penn State Nittany Lion wrestler Brady, earned his first career state title, while Patrick, only a sophomore, claimed his second career individual championship.
