Brian Harris Resigns as Dover-Eyota Head Football Coach
(ABC 6 News) – After coaching his team to the brink of a state football tournament berth, head coach Brian Harris won’t return in 2019.
Harris confirmed to ABC 6 News on Thursday that he has resigned as the school’s head football coach. Harris is also the head girls’ basketball coach at the school.
Harris told ABC 6 News he’s choosing to take at least one football season off and essentially hit the refresh button.
“It’s too much work right now, and I can’t find enough help,” Harris said. “It’s hard to find helpers to watch the weight room and find coaches in the area. (During the football season) I was working an additional 30-35 hours per week. It was just getting harder.”
This past season, Harris’ Eagles had a remarkable turnaround, finishing the season 8-3 overall before falling one win short of reaching the Class AAA state football tournament—it marked their best football season since 2007, when the Eagles also finished 8-3.
Harris said he’s “not done coaching football,” and he will continue coaching the Dover-Eyota girls’ basketball team.
Harris also noted the talent within the Eagles’ football program—standout quarterback Brady Williams is slated to return for his senior season in 2019.
