(ABC 6 News) - The Austin Packers baseball team made a statement in the Class AAA state quarterfinals on Thursday as they upset the second-seed Hill-Murray Pioneers, 3-1.
This is Austin's first appearance in a state tournament in 29 years.
In the first inning, the Pioneers scored first to take a one-nothing lead, which held until the 6th inning.
Top of the 6th, Austin loaded the bases and pitcher Teyghan Hovland took care of the rest. He belted the ball to deep left center and drove in two runs. After the 6th, the Packers were up 3-1 and that score held until the end.
Next up, they will face three-seed St. Thomas Academy in the Class AAA state semifinals on Friday at 2:30 p.m. Game is scheduled to be played at Siebert Field on the University of Minnesota's campus.
