(ABC 6 News) - Austin took the first step towards a new boys hockey co-op with Southland on Monday.
Austin approved to dissolve their current co-op with just Pacelli, and are now seeking approval from the Minnesota State High School League. The new co-op will bring Pacelli, Southland and Austin athletes onto one rink together.
"We are trying to grow. In Southland, those kids have chosen to play in Austin Youth Hockey as youth, and so they would like the opportunity to continue to participate with their teammates as they go to high school, and not have to change schools," Austin Activities Director Lisa Quednow said.
Austin already has approval from the Big 9 Conference and Region 1AA. If everything gets approved, the new hockey co-op is expected to be in place this fall.
