Austin Middle School Students Win Big in State Robotics Competition

(ABC 6 News) -- A big congratulations to a group of Austin middle school students and their coaches. Their hard work paid off at the statewide Minnesota State VEX Tournament this weekend in St. Cloud.

Teams from Ellis and IJ Holton Middle Schools together with their coaches, Tom Fritz, and Kaylene Jensen, took home several awards from the event.

Ellis Teams A and B won the "Team Award" together for their demonstration of mutual respect and teamwork.
Ellis Team B was eliminated in the semi-finals.
Ellis Team A won awards for "Excellence" and "Skills."
Ellis Team A won first place in the championship and advanced to the VEX Robotics World Competition in Louisville, KY as Minnesota State Champions.

IJ Holton teams were eliminated in the quarterfinals but nevertheless, Team A won the "Build" Award and Team B won the "Design" Award.
