(ABC 6 News)- On Saturday in Cloquet, the Austin Bruins defeated the Minnesota Wilderness 5-3, advancing to the Central Division Finals.
The Bruins took the semifinal series, three games to one and will play either the Aberdeen Wings or the Minot Minotauros next weekend in the Robertson Cup Tournament.
The Wilderness struck first, just four minutes into the game, but that fueled the Bruins, as they scored two goals late in the first period to take the lead. Evan Cholak scored the first goal for the Bruins at the 16:06 mark, and just seconds before the first period came to a close, Dante Sheriff scored the Bruins second goal of the night, giving Austin a 2-1 lead heading into the first intermission.
Bruins’ Travis Kothenbeutel found the back of the net at the 16:09 mark of the second period, to secure a lead, but the Wilderness responded in that same period to make it a 3-2 game.
However, in the third period Bruins Dante Zapata and Valdemar Ahlberg each scored a goal to secure the 4-2 lead. With about two minutes remaining in regulation, Wilderness Alex Spencer scored the teams third and final goal of the night.
The Bruins will face either the Aberdeen Wings or the Minot Minotaurous next Friday in the Central Division Finals.
