A Marathon, Not a Sprint for Zumbrota-Mazeppa

August 15, 2019 11:08 PM

(ABC 6 News) - Zumbrota-Mazeppa preparing for a long, gritty season, both physically and mentally.

The Cougars were 2-7 last year, losing to Dover-Eyota in sections. The team won in the first and the last games of the regular season. In between those victories was a tough stretch of six losses. The defense was worn out and injured. But this year, Head Coach Darin Raasch is looking for the defense to become stronger with the help of what he believes is a group of stellar linebackers.

With a grueling season ahead, Raasch is focusing on endurance in the early days of practice.

"Making sure that we're mentally ready not just for the first game but the grind of the season, and dealing with adversity as it comes and dealing with the highs and the lows," Raasch said.
