(ABC 6 News) -- Loved ones are remembering the man who died in the shooting that happened in Downtown Rochester Sunday morning. They say they're struggling and hurting from dealing with this loss.
Rochester Police have yet to share the shooting victim's identity. ABC 6 News spoke with Riak Dut. He says he is a friend of the man who died in the shooting incident. Riak said he went to back to spot where his friend died. In that spot, a small memorial has been created for the victim. Riak said his friend's name was JR, "You know, he was the nicest person you could ever meet," Riak said.
Riak has known JR for years and they were together early Sunday morning right around the time when bars were closing in Downtown Rochester. Riak said they were talking about what he loves, comedy, "I was talking to him and he shook my hand and said, keep doing what you're doing," Riak said.
And as friends do on a normal night out, they said their goodbyes and left for the night. But just minutes after, Riak heard something he didn't expect, gunshots, "I turned around and I saw him laying right there. It was hard. It felt like I just woke up. It took me a while to process. When I turned around that's when I noticed something serious," Riak said.
And now, Riak is left without his friend and says these shootings need to end, "Life is short, time moves fast. It's not worth it, put the guns down," Riak said.
Riak showed me pictures of JR. I smiled. The man looked like the life of the party, a man who everybody loved and cherished, "He was the most positive person, if there was a problem, he was the one to stop it," Riak said.
It's those memories Riak will remember of JR, the man who motivated him to do more and to be a better version of himself.
We reached out to Rochester Police for more information about the two people who were arrested. RPD said they will release more information about the two suspects on Monday.
