(ABC 6 News) - Early this month, sealed bids were opened for the demolition of unit four's stack at Silver Lake Power Plant in Rochester. The stack being the tallest tower at the plant.
Veit and Company had the lowest responsive bid of more than $454,000.
"The number four stack at Silver Lake Plant is no longer being used and we've taken a look at it specifically from a safety standpoint and when they took a look at that, it's just going to be more cost-effective and safer for us to take it down at this time," Tony Benson, communications coordinator for Rochester Public Works said.
The project is funded by the Revolving Decommission Fund.
The project is set to start in April with an expected completion date of October 15th.
