SEMN law enforcement agencies join Special Olympics Torch Run

(ABC 6 News) – Law enforcement agencies across the state are taking part in the Law Enforcement Torch Run Final Leg for Special Olympics Minnesota

More than 70 different agencies will relay the “Flame of Hope” more than 2,000 miles across Minnesota.

Southeast Minnesota law enforcement agencies took off on the final leg Thursday morning from the Olmsted County Government Center. Along the way, they will be making stops in Zumbrota, Lake City, Red Wing, and will finish in Hastings.

The route winds through SE Minnesota for 95 miles traveled by foot and mostly on bicycles.

Due to the pandemic, no athletes are participating and many of the competitions have been canceled.

"Many of them couldn’t work cause they work in community areas in many cases grocery stores things like that, and that was taken away and they had nothing else to go with because Special Olympics was shut down as well," Olmsted County Sheriff Kevin Torgerson.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Minnesota’s mission and the goal of the Final Leg is to raise funds for, and awareness of, Special Olympics Minnesota and its athletes.

The Torch Run goes until tomorrow.
