(ABC 6 News) – Samaritan Bethany in Rochester celebrated 100 years of service with Mayor Kim Norton signing an official proclamation recognizing the organization.

Samaritan Convalescent hotel opened on March 7, 1922, to help care for Mayo clinic patients who were unable to travel home.

Since then, the nonprofit added two more buildings and remodeled them to give seniors options for more independence and supervised living space.

"People want to live in their home. This isn’t home-like this is their home. And so I think our goal is to continue to be able to serve those individuals," said Mission Leader and CEO, Sue Knutson

The staff says the most exciting part about being open for 100 years is looking back at the relationships they’ve had with residents along the way.
