RPD: Man arrested following robbery, assault at hotel Friday

ROCHESTER, Minn. (ABC 6 News) – A 40-year-old man has been arrested after police said he threatened a woman with a gun, robbed her and sexually assaulted her.

The Rochester Police Department said a 34-year-old woman contacted them Sunday afternoon to report an incident that had happened Friday.

The woman told police she was staying at a hotel on the 1100 block of 2nd St SE. She went to the hotel around 4:30 p.m. and took the stairs up to her room.

When she got into the stairwell, police said a man followed her and told her he had a gun. The man forced the woman into her hotel room and followed her inside.

The man reportedly held her in the room until 2 a.m. During that time police said he stole from the woman and sexually assaulted her.

The man left the room and told the woman he had people in the area that would kill her or her family if she told the police about what happened.

The woman eventually left the room, checked out of the hotel and got to a safe place where she called police.

On Sunday, officers were able to locate the man, identified as 40-year-old Deonte Jenkins, walking along 3rd St near Broadway.
Police said it appears the man had been staying in a hotel room in the area that he had broken into.

Jenkins has been charged with 1st-degree aggravated robbery, 2nd-degree criminal sexual conduct and 1st-degree burglary with a dangerous weapon. His bail has been set at $100,000 and is scheduled to be back in court on Sept. 14.
