(ABC 6 News) - The Rochester Public School Board voted to close Friedell Middle School by the end of the 2021-2022 school year.
School board members voted 5-2 on the decision. The building will be repurposed for other uses starting in the 2022-2023 school year.
The district states it would cost more than $1.3 million every year to keep the school open due to staffing and overhead costs. Some school officials said it may be necessary to stay open to invest in students within its gifted program.
