(ABC 6 News) - The Rochester Fire Department says around 6:45 p.m. Wednesday crews were called to a warming shelter outside a public ice rink in northwest Rochester for a report of a fire.

When crews arrived they could see a small amount of flames on the outside of the building and found a fire near a wood burning stove inside the building.

The fire was extinguished and firefighters dismantled sheet metal and other building materials to make sure there were no hot spots or fire extension.

The fire department said the fire and extinguishing efforts caused significant damage to the building and it will not be available for use until it's repaired or replaced.

The exact cause of the fire is unknown at this time, but the fire department did say it appeared to be related to the wood burning stove and that the fire prevention division is investigating.
