(ABC 6 News) - A hometown football hero was back in Rochester Sunday evening to help open a new sports performance facility.

Marcus Sherels, a John Marshall High School standout and Vikings cornerback and punt returner, helped open the ETS Performance Center in Northwest Rochester.

Founded by Ryan and Heidi Englebert, the facility aims to help athletes become stronger competitors and gain valuable life skills.

Sherels is a co-owner alongside Vikings wide receiver Adam Thielen. The venture hits close to home for Sherels who says he didn't have opportunities like this growing up.

"It's not just athletic performance that we're stressing forward, it's striving to . . . bring good character and good people," Sherels said.

Eleven ETS performance centers exist with six in Minnesota, according to the center's website.
