(ABC 6 News) – In Olmsted County court Monday, a man pleaded guilty in two separate cases, one involving a shooting and the other a high-speed chase.

Langston Miles Mercedes, 24 of Rochester, pleaded guilty to 2nd-degree assault with a dangerous weapon.

On June 14, police responded to the Gates of Rochester in the 2000 block of 41st Street in northwest Rochester for a report of a shooting.

RPD said Mercedes shot another man in the leg, and then took off on foot. Mercedes was arrested on the 41st street bridge and a gun that matched the description of the gun that was used was located in a grassy area near the bridge.

Also in court Monday, and in an unrelated case, Mercedes entered a guilty plea to one count of fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle, a 2nd-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and firearm possession charge were dropped.

Authorities say Mercedes led them on a chase at speeds of more than 90 mph back on May 9. after he allegedly fled from an attempted traffic stop.

The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office says the chase started around 4 am on Highway 52 and ended shortly after when Mercedes pulled into an apartment building parking lot in the 1900 block of 18 ½ Avenue NW.

Deputies ran the license plate and saw the vehicle was registered to a person who lived in the building. Deputies say a woman reportedly let Mercedes into an apartment before he eventually surrendered.

Sentencing in both cases is scheduled for January.
