(ABC 6 News) - Randy Brock, meteorologist, and real estate agent announced his candidacy for Minnesota House District 26B Monday on the democratic ticket.
"Our family has put down roots here. We have a diverse county and district. Anyone from first-generation immigrant citizens to multi-generational farmers," Brock said. "So being able to take care of their health, their education, and even things like affordable housing to make sure that's a focus for where we're going ahead."
Brock is an active volunteer for Meals on Wheels and the Boys and Girls Club of Rochester and he's also a supporter of natural habitats throughout the region he hopes to represent.
"It's really honoring and humbling to be able to help and I was also the president of Hiawatha Trout unlimited," Brock said. "I really love fishing but also just love taking care of the resource too. So being a voice for the cold-water resources around here. I was the voice for Minnesota Trout Unlimited. I got to lobby up at the capitol to bring money back to southeastern Minnesota so that we could restore a lot of our trout streams."
In a Facebook post, Monday, Republican Incumbent Nels Pierson, said he was still hopeful that he might be running unopposed in the 2020 election cycle, but was blindsided by a quality candidate filing to run for the seat for the Democrats.
Brock said he's ready to get his campaign underway.
"I would just love to be able to serve in the area," Brock said.
Incumbent Representative Nels Pierson said to ABC 6 News in a statement, "Since 2013 I've been listening, learning and leading from the voices of the people of Olmsted County. I've carried bipartisan bills to the Capitol and delivered on major state infrastructure investments for our community. I hope the people of House District 26B will entrust in me their vote again in 2020."
